Scion Nonprofit Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for a Director of People and Talent for a mission-driven national nonprofit advocacy organization. This exciting onsite leadership role is based in Washington, DC .

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Director of People and Talent will oversee the full employee lifecycle while building and strengthening a culture rooted in equity and inclusion. This leader will partner closely with the VP of Equity, Culture, and Talent and the COO to advance organizational culture and labor management relations. The Director will manage a small team and play a critical role in stabilizing and enhancing HR processes in support of a dynamic nonprofit mission.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the full employee lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, performance, retention, benefits, and offboarding.
  • Partner with senior leadership to embed equity and inclusion into all talent operations.
  • Oversee labor management relations, including collective bargaining and grievance processes, with a focus on constructive union partnerships.
  • Manage and support a small team, ensuring compliance, benefits administration, and talent processes run smoothly.
  • Strengthen organizational culture by fostering collaboration, transparency, and employee engagement.
  • Support continuous improvement of HR systems, processes, and tools.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Direct experience with labor management relations and union partnerships.
  • Strong background in employee relations, compliance, and HR best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to embed equity, inclusion, and cultural alignment into HR processes.
  • Proven leadership skills with experience managing and mentoring HR/talent teams.
  • Excellent communication, conflict resolution, and relationship-building skills.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

This full-time, exempt position offers a competitive salary of $110,000 $150,000 alongside a comprehensive benefits package, generous PTO, and a supportive, mission-driven workplace culture.
